How often should I use my Sonicare toothbrush?

Sonicare can be used in place of any toothbrush, so therefore it is recommended that you use your Sonicare toothbrush at least twice a day, every day. And remember to floss daily too.

How do I charge my Sonicare toothbrush?

Prior to the first brushing you should charge a new brush a miniumum of 24 hours. For maximum battery life you should feel free to store your Sonicare toothbrush in the charger base, plugged in, when not in use. The brush retains a charge that allows for approximately two weeks of normal use (two times a day).

I feel a tickling or tingling sensation when I first use my Sonicare toothbrush. Is this normal?

Yes, it is. Because Sonicare cleans differently, it also can feel strange to new users. That is why all models include Easy-start , a feature which slowly introduces the power of the Sonicare toothbrush over a length of time.

Also, you do not need to apply as much pressure when using a Sonicare as you do with a manual toothbrush. In a short time, brushing with a Sonicare will feel completely normal.

Should my gums be tender after I use my Sonicare toothbrush?

If you have gum disease, haven't been using a power toothbrush or don't floss regularly, you may experience some tenderness when you begin to use a Sonicare. Be sure you're applying only light pressure to your teeth and gums. Your gums should feel less tender within a few days of use.

How often should I replace my brush head?

Recent studies have proven that a brush head that is replaced every 6 months removes significantly more plaque than if used for longer. Brush heads should be replaced even if they don't look worn because an overly used brush head compromises the effectiveness of your Sonicare toothbrush.

Note: Elite and Advance brush heads are not compatible. Make sure you purchase the brush head that fits your handle.

How do I avoid "splattering" when using my Sonicare toothbrush?

Be sure to place the brush head in your mouth before you press the power button and keep your mouth closed around the brush while brushing.

My Sonicare toothbrush makes a loud noise when I turn it on. What should I do?

Be sure to remove the clear plastic travel cap from the brush head before turning on your Sonicare toothbrush. Also, make sure the cuff that secures the brush head to the handle is tightened completely.

Can my children use a Sonicare toothbrush?

It depends on their age. In most cases, children 8 years or older can use a Sonicare toothbrush. However, we strongly advise you to check with the child's dental professional. The Sonicare Elite is easier to maneuver by children because it has a 30% smaller and 30% lighter handle than the Advance model. The tapered brush head also helps provide a comfortable cleaning. If you purchased a Sonicare Advance toothbrush, we suggest that children use our Compact brush head. It's 40% smaller than the Advance Standard brush head and it has a slightly longer neck, which makes it easier to reach a child's hard-to-reach places.

Do I have to store my Sonicare in the charger?

Because you cannot overcharge your Sonicare, feel free to store it in the charger. Since your Sonicare will hold its charge for approximately two weeks of normal use (brushing twice a day for two minutes), you can also choose to keep it out of the charger for much of the time. And Sonicare's extended charge time makes it perfect for travel.
